Before you List

Thinking about putting your home on the market, but not quite sure where to start? Before you put it up for potential buyers to see, there are a few things that are beneficial to know before you list. Check out my tips to make sure you’re as prepared as possible before making the big decision to put your home up for sale!

Make a plan

Is listing your home something you’ve decided you’re 100 percent going to do? You’re ready to make a move? Great! You’re about to embark on a very exciting journey. Now, the next step is to make a plan. Search the home with a notebook and pen in hand (or your phones notepad) and jot down major and minor repairs you notice that would be beneficial to complete before putting it on the market. This can help you stay organized and give you a good game plan moving forward.

Do your research

I can’t stress this enough – before listing your home, one of (if not the) most important asset you have, make sure to put in the time and do your research! It’s important that you understand the neighborhood, and the community that you live in. It’s also important to see what other, similar homes to yours are selling for in the area so you can get a good idea of what price to set your home at. A realtor can help make this process as simple and stress free as possible, and do the background work for you, saving you time.

Prepare your home for sale

Another must before putting your home on the market is taking the time to make sure your home is ready for potential buyers to come and look at. The interior and exterior of the home should be ready for viewing – clean, aesthetically pleasing, bright and cozy. They’re all equally important. Choosing the right realtor to work with during this process can help ensure your home piques the interest of as many potential buyers as possible. This gives your home the best chance possible to sell as quickly as possible.

Simple touches, such as adding a coat of paint to brighten up an otherwise dull living space, or even washing the windows to let in more light and make the home appear brighter and cleaner can really do so much. Also make sure your front steps look presentable. They’re the first impression a buyer is going to get of your home. This means adding flowers for a pop of color, replacing steps that need it, and potentially changing out the front door or changing the door color.
